Sailing to Ducan Bay

Ducan Bay is a nice bay for anchorage.  Well protected except north east.  The 57 mile sail from Presque Isle was fast.. Averaging about 7.5 mph. But quite warm..  Had to break out the pool

For those that don’t know.. Our boat is a 400 Catalina.. Thanks for the great boat Gerry Douglas.. Our boat designer who we talk to most every year at the Annapolis boat show..  Jane and her Calalina hat..

I single handed sailed off the hook from Presque Isle harbor while Jane cleaned up in the salon.  Leaving..

This morning as every.. Took long hot shower.. We take in water from the lake.. Heat it and send it to a raw water shower in the bath.. A second fresh water shower to rinse if need be

Passed a tug boat on the way up..

Presque Isle Bay

What a wonderful bay to anchor in. We woke up and set on the bow of the boat drinking our a pot off coffee and enjoyed over looking the bay.

Bryce bringing me a cup of coffee. Thank you honey…
The water was so clear. We anchored in 15 feet and we could still see the bottom of the bay. The bay was so calm we decided to take a kayak ride before we headed out.

Beautiful sunset over Presque Isle Bay

Alpena & Presque Isle Bay

After cuirsing from Harrisville to Alpena, we were gracefully pulled over by the United States Coastguard, boarded and inspected.. All ok👍🏼😎 we took a slip for the night. We could not believe all the duck poo on the docks. Bryce took the hose and cleaned the poo off for me. I was able to get some laundry done that night while Bryce also hooked up our boat alarm great security….

Bryce’s sister Shawn and her husband Jim spent the day sailing with us on our way to Presque Isle Bay…what a blessing it was to spend the day with them..

Enjoying a beautiful sail..
A titanic moment for Shawn..💨
Motoring into Presque Isle Marina to drop them off.. Great day on the lake⛵️

Harrisville Michigan

What a nice place to visit..,after Bryce was done working for the day we went into town. I needed to go to the market and pick up a few things. We decided to have dinner out. I cannot tell you the last time I enjoyed my dinner as much as I did here. I savor every bit. I had butternut squash soup, and the logger sandwich (French dip) Bryce had  a BLT & chicken noodle soup. I know these dishes sound so normal but they were far from normal…my mouth is watering just thinking of the soup. I give this Old Place Inn Restaurant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Old Place Inn Restaurant  This is our Beauty anchored inside the marina. I have to say people here are very nice. The harbor master even offered us a place on the beach to have a campfire 🔥

Ridding out a small thunder storm

Yesterday, we woke up to thick fog in Tawas Bay, but we decided to pull up anchor. Visibility was a 1/4 mile.

About an hour later, the fog started to lift.

It turn in to a perfect day to sail.

We heard sounds like a jet going over us..something was not right then we looked the radar …. The orange shows the storm..the little boat you see is us…

  The skies quickly turn
Then the rain
As fast as it came it was gone…
The headsail worked perfect

The clouds look like they are watching over us….

Tawas Bay Michigan

We anchored in Tawas Bay for the night. I was surprised to see the water temperature was only 59-60 degrees. While traveling (sailing) to Tawas the air temp was in the 80’s it was so warm, I had to put the pool up to cool down. It was funny because it felt like I was putting my feet into a bucket of ice.
We were able to visit with our older son Ryan and his wife Karen for a few hours. What a great time Thank for coming out kids.

FYI: I just wanted to share some interesting conversation with you that I had with a couple at the gas docks in Port Austin.
Did you know that the Great Lakes have some of the most interesting shipwrecks. This couple who is from Canada go all over scuba diving. They showed us photos of vessels that are still fully intact under water. It was awesome to see. Yeah..,now I want to scuba dive!!! Hum…do you have to know how to swim…..lol

This is cool too, I had cell power crossing the Saginaw Bay

Bryce & George enjoying a good day of sailing

Port Austin Michigan

Port Austin. We anchored in the bay. This was an awesome place. Although we have been here before we don’t remember it being this nice. We walked along the board walked and stepped into a local pizza place for dinner. The bay does have a bit of seaweed in it but not to bad. We are going to diesel up and empty trash and out towards Tawas Michigan.
